The Seasiders reserve side went down 2-0 in a high tempo affair against Rochdale at Rossendale United on Wednesday night.though The Seasiders weren't without chances of their own. It was the Seasiders young 'keeper Lewis Edge who is on loan at Rochdale, who kept the Tangerines out with a string of fine saves.

There were just eight minutes on the clock when Edge produced a double save to deny Keigan Parker. The young keeper dived to his right to keep the ball out before quickly getting to his feet to deny Ciaran Donnelly who'd closed in to pick up the scraps.

It was high tempo stuff from both sides but it was the hosts who found the back of the net a dangerous ball into the penalty area by Mario Bryan on the right floated its way to Thompson on the back post and he hooked beyond Kyle Clancy.

Three minutes later and it was back up the other end with Pool carving out another chance for Keigan Parker, but once again Edge stood firm and made another fine stop to deny the Scot from close range.

Rochdale seemed to get more of a hold on the game with 30 minutes played and it wasn't long before they doubled their lead thanks to Ben Wharton. The striker was a thorn in the side of the Blackpool defence all evening his direct approach caused problems for the Pool defence, Wharton saw off the challenge of a couple of defenders before blasting a low shot from an acute angle into the back of the net. Ten minutes later he went close to scoring his second of the night after rounding the defence but Kyle Clancy was out to make the block this time round.

After the hustle and bustle of the first half the second half left a lot to be desired, Rochdale's physical approach seemed to unsettle the Seasiders and the slick passing on show first half was sadly missing in the second period.

Rochdale had a great chance to make it 3-0 on the hour substitute Williams hit the bar from five-yards.

On 75 minutes Pool finally beat Edge with a shot and it was The Seasiders man of the match Ciaran Donnelly who did so. Sadly for the former England Youth international he failed to get the ball past the post as it crashed off the upright before finally being hacked clear by the Dale defence.

In the dying minutes Pool again created the opening from a deep left sided cross. Sub Dane Matthews found himself unmarked inside the box but sadly for him he could find no past Lewis Edge who pounced on the ball after making the block.
