A youthful Pool reserve side lost their unbeaten run at Tranmere on Wednesday evening.

Pool, who only had two recognised professionals in Lee Jones and Stuart Anderson in their side were always going to find life tough against a Rovers side including Chris Dagnall, Steve Davies and .

Dagnall opened the scoring on eight minutes with a deft chip from 25 yards and was denied on two occasions before the break by two great saved by Lee Jones. Despite Jones inspirational form he was beaten before the break after a cleverly worked free kick saw Steve Davies drill through a crowd into the bottom left hand corner from 25-yards.

Sean Paterson came close to pulling one back shortly before the interval but the young striker was rewarded on 54 minutes when he fired past Wilson from a narrow angle.

Pool tried in vain to snatch an equaliser and now slip into second spot behind Carlisle who have a superior goal difference.

Pool: Jones, Metcalfe, Parle, Brown, Lawlor, Baldry, Kay (Watson 83),, Anderson Foran (Goulding 73), Bagdadi, Paterson

Booked: Foran, Anderson
