Reserves Held At Bloomfield Road
The Seasiders reserve team were held 0-0 by Rotherham on Wednesday night. Pool who included first team hopefuls Phil Doughty, Stuart Anderson, Jamie Burns, Matthew Blinkhorn, Matt Shaw and Lewis Edge handed 15-year-old centre of excellence midfielder Matty Kay his first start in the reserves and the young midfielder was not overawed against a Millers team including John Ostemobor who currently on loan at Millmoor.
Rotherham began proceedings and it was the men from South Yorkshire who had the first attack of the game, with Stephen Brogan seeing his first time shot well blocked by Lewis Edge.
Pool were forced to make a change during the first half, Simon Baldry's injury nightmares continued on 35 minutes, with the former Notts County man being forced off after a clash of heads left the winger with blood flowing from the head, he was replaced by Sean Paterson.
Pools started the second period brightly and Pool were unlucky not to have taken the lead, Matt Blinkhorn's driven cross just eluded Sean Paterson at the far post, but chances were few and far between.
Pool made their second change of the evening on 73 minutes when James Foran replaced Matty Kay. Two minutes later Kevin Brown replaced Matt Blinkhorn who appeared to have picked up a kick to the ankle. Lewis Edge made a couple of decent saves to deny the visitors whilst Stuart Anderson curled a free kick just over on 78 minutes.
Matt Shaw came close to snatching three points in the latter stages but he was to be denied by a fine save by Gary Montgomery,
Edge, Goulding, Burns, Doughty, Lawlor, Baldry (Paterson 35), Bagdadi, Anderson, Kay (Foran 73), Shaw, Blinkhorn.(Brown 75)
