The Seasiders reserve team followed their senior counterparts recording their first win of the season with a 3-1 win over Preston North End. A brace from Matthew Blinkhorn and a fine solo strike from Simon Wiles saw Simon Grayson's men take the bragging rights from the Lancashire derby.

Tuesday night's hero Simon Grayson was able to call on first team hopefuls Lewis Edge, Phil Doughty, Stuart Anderson, Tony Butler, Jamie Burns, Matthew Blinkhorn and Matt Shaw, whilst the visitors line up was fairly inexperienced.

Pool began proceedings attacking the vacant South Stand area of the ground, but it was the visitors who had the first chance of the game in the opening seconds, Phil Doughty put behind for a corner, but Lewis Edge was on hand to collect the cross with ease.

A minute later Jamie Burns saw a curling free kick tipped around the post for a corner by Ben Hinchcliffe, the resulting corner saw Simon Wiles cross to Matt Blinkhorn, who 8-yards headed home to give Pool the lead.

Preston forced a corner on 16 minutes but the set play failed to test the Pool defence.

Matty Blinkhorn almost doubled the lead on 21 minutes, his glancing header from Simon Baldry's left wing cross forced Hinchcliffe into a fine save down to his right.

Warren Beattie squandered a great chance for the visitors 23 minutes, the young winger found himself one on one with Lewis Edge but could only direct his finish wide with Edge beaten.

Matt Shaw fired just wide before seeing Jamie Burns fire straight at the keeper after good work from Shaw.

Ashley Parrillon became the first player to be booked shortly before the break following late challenge on Simon Baldry. Hibbert almost redeemed himself two minutes later when unmarked he headed just over from six yards, but the visitors didn't have to wait too much longer before they were back on level terms when Warren Beattie rounded off a swift counter attacking move.

Pool started the second have brightly and on 52 minutes Pool restored their lead, thanks to a great finish from Matthew Blinkhorn who some 20-yards out volleyed past Hinchcilffe into the bottom left hand corner.

Phil Doughty could only direct a header well wide from Simon Wiles corner on 55 minutes as Pool continued to enjoy the better of the second half.

Simon Wiles almost made it 3-1 on 57 minutes the young winger exchanged a smart one two with Matt Blinkhorn before seeing his rasping shot tipped around for a corner by Hinchcliffe.

Pool made their first change of the night on 58 minutes when Jonathan Goulding replaced the impressive Matthew Lawlor.

Pool were indebted to skipper Phil Doughty on 62 minutes, the big centre back headed over his own cross bar after Lewis Edge failed to hold on to Hibbert's shot.

Matthew Blinkhorn picked up a yellow card on 67 minutes following a late challenge on Steve Cudworth. A minute later Preston were reduced to ten men when Ashley Parrillon picked up his second yellow card.

Simon Wiles made it 3-1 on 70 minutes the young winger cut in from the right wing beating two men before slotting beyond Hinchcliffe. The goal saw Pool make their second change with Matthew Kay replacing Simon Baldry, the change saw Kay take up a central midfield berth with Jamie Burns reverting to his preferred left wing role.

Pool's final change of the evening came with 15 minutes remaining when youth team hot shot Sean Paterson replaced Matt Shaw.

Paterson almost made it 4-1, the young striker exchange a one two with Jamie Burns before seeing his finish fly just wide of Hinchcliffe's right hand post.
