The indifferent form of Pool's reserve team continued Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 home defeat against Shrewsbury.

Pool who included first team hopefuls Rob Clare, Keigan Parker, Jamie Burns, Simon Wiles and Phil Doughty as well as a first half appearance from John Murphy and trialists Simon Baldry and Matt Ormerod began proceedings the better of the two sides. Keigan Parker twice squandered chances before the Seasiders took the lead, the first forcing keeper Hart into a fine save following a great ball from Kevin Brown, the second saw Danny Whittaker split the Shews defence wide open with a great through ball, Parker beat two defenders before firing just over.

Trialist Simon Baldry who had looked lively was forced out of the action midway through the half, the former Notts County winger came off second best following 50/50 clash. The change saw Cabbar Bagdadi slot in at right back with Jamie Burns moving forward to left wing, with Simon Wiles being restored on the right hand side of midfield.

The breakthrough finally came on the half hour through John Murphy who headed home Keigan Parker's right wing cross.

The interval saw Pool make a second change with John Murphy being replaced by Sean Paterson.

Second half the visitors seemed like a different side, but it was the Seasiders who should have doubled their lead, Simon Wiles showed a flash of brilliance, beating three men before seeing his shot rebound off the inside of the post with the keeper beaten.

The visitors pulled themselves back onto level terms when Ryan Lowe headed home a left wing cross.

A mistake from substitute Cabbar Bagdadi gifted the visitors the lead and ultimately the games winner, Aiston who squared for Walton to fire past Edge dispossessed the youngster with ease.

Pool had their chances to equalise, Keigan Parker saw a header fly wide, whilst an attempted chip flew straight at the keeper, but Pool's best chance came through man of the match Danny Whittaker who latched onto a long throw from matt Ormerod before seeing his long range shot deflect wide for a corner.

All in all a disappointing afternoon for Simon Grayson and the few hundred watching at a chilly Bloomfield Road.
