Seasiders Record 4-2 Win
The Seasiders title bid in the Pontins League was given a boost on Wednesday night when Steve Thompson's men recorded an emphatic 4-2 win at Prenton Park over Tranmere Rovers.
Pool who included Pavels Steinbors, Danny Coid, Paul Tierney, Marcus Bean, Simon Wiles, Phil Marsh, Andy Welsh, David Fox and Keigan Parker began brightly against a Tranmere side containing one time Pool targets John Mullin and Chris Greenacre.
The hosts took the lead on 13 minutes when Mullin found the lively Craig Curran wide on the right, the young winder cut inside and saw his rasping shot blocked by Steinbors, unfortunately for the Latvian stopper the ball rebounded straight to former Huddersfield man Adnan Ahmend who netted the rebound.
The goal was the kick up the backside the Seasiders needed and on the half hour Pool were a back on level terms
Tranmere failed to deal with a great free kick from Andy Welsh and fortunately for the Seasiders Rovers defender Ash Taylor headed past Peter Kennedy and into his own net, less than a minute later Three minutes later Pool took the lead when ANDY WELSH headed home after a great cross from the impressive Keigan Parker.
Five minutes before the break Pool were forced to make a change with Phil Marsh limping out of the action to be replaced by Danny Mitchley. Mitchley's impact was immediate within two minutes of his introduction the young striker had extended the Seasiders lead, another great cross caused the Rovers defence all kinds and the young striker reacted quickest to net his 33rd goal of the season.
Pool began the second half brightly and within five minutes of the re-start Pool extended their lead and put the game out of reach when ASHTON BAYLISS headed home from a another great corner.
Tranmere netted a late consolation after Craig Curran's header left Steinbors wrong footed, but coach Steve Thompson was delighted with the performance, "I keep telling the players that playing in the reserves is a million times better than training, it keeps your match sharpness and fitness levels up. "Foxy" and "Welshy" both needed to get some football under their belts and they will have benefited from the game. The senior lads showed a great attitude and worked hard against a useful Tranmere side."
