Reserves Go Down 3-1
An inexperienced reserve side went down 3-1 against Burnley at Accrington Stanley on Wednesday evening.
Despite being up against a Burnley side containing household names like Akinbiyi, Unsworth, Gudjonsson, Mahon and O'Connor it was the Seasiders who should have opened the scoring, Phil Marsh played a great ball down the right channel to the mystery trialist who saw his finish beat the keeper but unfortunately for Pool it didn't have enough to roll into the back of the net.
Two minutes later Ashton Bayliss and Ade Akinibiyi received a ticking off from referee Karl Evans for a little argie bargie before a Burnley corner.
Trialist striker Phil Marsh was inches away from giving Pool the lead, the former Man Utd man almost got on the end of a great cross from Dale Warburton.
Marsh's fellow trialist almost gave Pool the lead, the winger showed a great turn of pace to race clear of the Burnley defence but his effort whistled just wide of the post.
Former Wigan ace Alan Mahon flashed a shot just wide on 18 minutes as Burnley's more experienced side began to take a hold on the game.
Mahon tested Clancy with another long range strike, this time the wide man cut in from the left before unleashing a powerful left foot drive.
The deadlock was broken on 26 minutes when Burnley countered at pace, Joey Gudjonsson raced forward before sliding a great pass to ROBERT TURNER who slotted past Clancy.
Two minutes later Steve Jones should have doubled the Clarets lead when Alan Mahon found him unmarked at the far post, fortunately for Pool Jones finish flew well wide.
Danny Mitcheley fired just over before Pool conceded their second, Steve Jones out muscled Dale Warburton wide on the Pool left, Jones floated over a great cross to ROBERT TURNER who looped a header over Clancy to double his tally for the evening.
Danny Mitcheley forced the keeper into a fine reaction save on 38 minutes, the young striker turned and smashed a left foot strike after a great ball from the lively Phil Marsh.
Five minutes before the break STEVE JONES made it 3-0, the pacy winger cut in from the right beating three Pool defenders before slotting beyond Clancy.
Akinibiyi almost made it 4-0 when he got on the end of Steve Jones cross, fortunately for the Seasiders Kyle Clancy managed to get a hand on the ball and Akinibiyi fired wide.
In stoppage time Mitcheley curled a shot just wide after neat run from Warburton
Half Time Burnley 3 Blackpool 0
Young keeper Kyle Clancy produced a brilliant double block on 53 minutes to deny Akinibiyi who had got on the end of a Steve Jones cross, the ball fell to Mahon who saw his first time strike well blocked by Clancy.
Danny Mitcheley was denied a goal on 58 minutes, the second year scholar jinked past two Burnley defenders before seeing his finish curl just wide.
The Seasiders persistence and endeavour was rewarded on 67 minutes when ASHTON BAYLISS hooked home from 15 yards after.
The goal gave Steve Thompson's men a lift but despite enjoying plenty of possession Pool failed to test the young Clarets keeper.
Alan Mahon almost rounded off an impressive performance seven minutes from time when he wriggled free of Ashton Bayliss to drill a shot across the face of goal.
Matty Kay saw a long range effort fly wide as Pool continued to battle against their Lancashire rivals
