Danny Coid says he is 'made up' after learning that his option in his contract has been taken up for next season.

The extra year means that the right-back will now be entering his tenth season with the club, which means a testimonial could be on the horizon.

On hearing the news that he will be staying at Bloomfield Road, Coid said: "I'm made up, especially with it being my tenth season next year. Just to be a part of Blackpool still means a lot to me."

The fact that next year is likely to be a testimonial season is something that Coidy jokingly said he was not looking forward to planning but is looking forward to generally.

He said: "I'm not even looking forward to that. It takes a lot of planning and a lot of work. I've got a few people who are willing to help. I'll try and speak to my agent and see what comes of it.

"I'm looking forward to it though; it should be a great occasion," he added.

When asked whether he had any personal goals next season, Coid replied: "I just want to play, that's my main goal and to keep injury free which I've managed to do this season."

Despite being a right-back for most of his career, Coidy is now seen more and more as a versatile player who can play a number of positions across the park. His appearance in the final game of the season on Sunday saw him start at left-back against Watford.

Being a utility player can prove to be a great way of making the starting XI but Coid would still prefer to be in his regular position of right-back. Although this might be the case, he admits he is always willing to 'do a job for the team' whenever required.

When questioned as to whether being versatile is a help or a hindrance, he responded: "I don't know. It works both ways. It's good to have in your locker because if you need to be put in certain positions you're versatile to play there.

"But you want to play in your main position, and sometimes it's a bit of, we need you to play there this week or we need you to play there, so you won't be able to play in that position. You're going to have to do a job for the team, which is what I've done for the past so many seasons now," he added.
