The Chairman's End Of Season Message
If you didn't buy a programme on Sunday and wanted to know what the chairman said in his end of season programme notes - read them here!
Good afternoon and welcome to Bloomfield Road for what will hopefully be a positive end to the season.
I am sure you will agree it has been a fantastic season and no matter what the outcome from today it will be one that everyone will remember for a very long time.
It doesn't seem two minutes since we were celebrating the opening day of the season win at Leicester and hopefully by full time today we will be celebrating our Championship status for next season.
As well as the memorable afternoon at Deepdale in December, there have been many memorable matches, the win at Derby in the Carling Cup and the performance at Tottenham are just two games that instantly spring to mind.
In Simon, Tony and Tommo we have the hardest working management team during my time as chairman, the three of them work exceptionally hard and well together. We all know next season will be even tougher, but things don't appear to faze any of them and I am sure they will be looking to build on this season's experiences.
Our youth team has performed exceptionally well this season and their hard work and endeavour was rewarded on Monday night when they won the Lancashire FA Youth Cup against Wigan. From the current crop of youngsters we have already offered professional terms to two players.
Our centre of excellence and girls department continue to make excellent progress this season, the girls under 10's completed a league and cup double at the expense of Manchester United, whilst the all age groups in the centre of excellence achieved excellent results. None of this would be possible without the hard work and enthusiasm of those giving up their time to coach and play a part a part in the development of our youngsters.
In the community, we recently made a presentation to all the head teachers of the Blackpool Primary Schools and in the coming weeks we are hoping to do the same to the heads in Fylde and Wyre. We are also keen to build links with all the secondary schools on the Fylde coast. We have a number of initiatives to encourage younger supporters to attend matches here at Bloomfield Road both on a matchday and at reserve fixtures. We are also working on a number of other schemes with both the local council and health care trust.
Mr Belokon remains fully committed to the club and anyone doubting his commitment of love of the club should have seen him at the Sheffield Wednesday game, he was a nervous wreck and I am sure he will be the same again today!
I would like to say a few thank-you's before I sign off.
Firstly to all our season ticket holders and to our incredible away supporters, you have once again been phenomenal, every club we have played against this season has commented on your magnificent support. I am sure like me and the board of directors you have thoroughly enjoyed the season.
Thank you to all our sponsors especially Floors2Go, Glyn Jones Estates, Blackpool Leisure, Blackpool Airport, Brands Scaffolding and All In Maintenance . All your efforts and sponsorship are appreciated and we look forward to continuing our relationship with you in the future.
On an amusing note, it was good to see the Oldham chairman in his end of season programme notes recommending that Oldham supporters shoplift in the Blackpool clubs shop rather than the Oldham club shop, this could be taken as an admission of the Oldham chairman that he would prefer his supporters to wear Tangerine!
Finally I would like to offer my congratulations to Andy Pilley and his team at Fleetwood Town for their promotion to the Conference North, we continue to work very closely with Fleetwood and I know next season we will looking to strengthen our links. Further down the football pyramid it is also nice to see chairman Dai Davies and his team at Kirkham & Wesham enjoying a promotion and I am sure you we will join me in wishing them well in their FA Vase final next Sunday at Wembley.
Have a good summer.
Karl
