Larry: Players Up For The Game
SIMON Grayson says there is a lot of positivity in the Blackpool camp ahead of the game with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The match is set to be one of the biggest of the season so far and the manager feels the players are 'probably looking forward to this game more than any other game this season'.
A victory for the Seasiders would take them four points clear of Wednesday with just two fixtures remaining of the Championship calendar. It would also mean that the team would reach that magical number of 53 points for the season, which earlier looked like the target to achieve safety.
Although there is deemed to be a lot at stake in the game, the manager can't wait for the match to come around.
"I'm looking forward to it," he said. "It's a big challenge for us. Obviously, everybody is aware of the situation that we're in, everybody is aware of the situation a lot of other teams are in and everybody is looking to see who is playing who, who's going to pick up points, but all we can do, again, is concentrate on what we try and do.
"There's probably no hiding away from the fact that it's a big game for both clubs but there's a lot of other big games for other teams involved this weekend as well.
"I'm sure it's going to be a cracking atmosphere, a cracking game and I just want the players to go out and express themselves, play with some sort of freedom and enjoy the challenge.
"There is a lot of positivity about the club at the moment. The players are probably looking forward to this game more than any other game this season. I'm sure people will be anxious, whether it's us, Sheffield Wednesday or the fans but you've just got to get on with it. It's a game of football we know we and can go and win - and I'm sure Brian will be telling his players the same."
With three games left to go and nine points to play for the manager remains adamant that the Seasiders will still be in the Championship next season.
He said: "I'm fully confident that we'll be staying up in the division, everybody connected with the club do and everybody is trying to pull in the same direction to make sure that happens."
Grayson believes there is just as much at stake for Sheffield Wednesday: "Sheffield Wednesday are obviously a massive club, they've got big expectancy levels and they can't afford to go down any less than we can, so it's big for both teams, and both managers will be trying to make sure that they get the right result.
"They're a good team. They've got some attacking players, they've got some young, inexperienced players as well, so they've got a good mixture and obviously one or two injured players may be coming back for the weekend - and it'll be a good game," he added.
Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws echoed Grayson's sentiments about the game and told the Owls official website: "You couldn't get a bigger game for us. I know it sounds daft but this is more important than the Sheffield United game.
"Blackpool will look on this game as winnable and if they can win I think that would put them safe, so it's massive. There is everything to play for but equally everything to lose. There will be some twists and turns on Saturday for sure.
"One of the great things with Blackpool is that they have a good work ethic and team spirit. Wes Hoolahan has caught the eye of many. He is able to drift across the pitch and play freely, which can hurt teams, but on the downside it could be a weakness as it can leave gaps.
"There's also Dickov up front who is full of energy and enthusiasm, which can give any club a kick-start. Gorkss at the back has been scoring goals from set-plays, and that's one of the things they are strong at because they are a big side," Laws added.
