Big Match Preview
THE HYPE is already starting to build for the big game between the Seasiders and Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow, as both look to edge further towards safety.
Supporters are once again being encouraged to become that 12th man at Bloomfield Road with mock-up posters of Simon Grayson set to be put up around the ground by BSA containing the line 'Your Football Club Needs You'.
The poster, as featured in the Gazette yesterday, has been used to signal the importance of the game and the manager can understand why its been done but admits he will get some stick for it.
He said: "It's took a long time for this club to get to where we are and we don't want to give it up lightly. If it means the fans getting even more behind us, which is something difficult to do because they've been fantastically behind us all season, well that little bit could help.
"I'm not sure if my picture being banded around might scare one or two people off but we live with that, and I'm sure I'll get some stick for it."
Both teams come into the game knowing that three points would make a massive difference to their league position, especially considering the potential gap that could be created for the winner.
The Seasiders currently sit two places and one point clear of Saturday's visitors on 50 points. Although the relegation issue is unlikely to be finalised this weekend with two games to go, the closeness of both teams in the league makes it what the manager has deemed a 'big game'.
Sheffield Wednesday will be making late fitness checks on five players going into the game tomorrow with Steve Watson (groin), Graham Kavanagh (hamstring), Deon Burton (scratched cornea), Wade Small (hamstring) and Richard Hinds (ankle) hoping to be available.
The Seasiders on the other hand are hoping to have Claus Jorgensen available again after he missed the game at Cardiff. The only players likely to be missing are John Hills (ankle ligament) and Keigan Parker (abductor muscle) who have now been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The teams have met 63 times in the league with the Seasiders winning 19, drawing 11 and losing 33. The overall record in all competitions stands at Blackpool wins 23, Sheffield Wednesday wins 36 and 12 draws.
