Larry: We Won't Rely On Others
SIMON Grayson believes it is imperative that the Seasiders don't rely on other teams in the survival race, as he aims for three points at Cardiff.
Victory for Barnsley over Watford last night turned the bottom of the table on its head once again and the manager is keen to stress that Pool will be concentrating solely on their own results.
Speaking ahead of training this morning, on the back of the Tykes 3-0 win last night, Grayson said: "You can't rely on other teams, its proved that again. All you can do is concentrate on your own results and try and make sure that your own results take care of your own situation.
"We were bitterly disappointed after the game on Tuesday night but we pick ourselves up for training and look forward to the Cardiff game and not worry about what other people are doing, concentrate on what we need to do."
The manager has utter belief in the players and is confident that the team will pick up the points necessary to stay in the Championship.
"We've got a lot of faith in the players, a lot of confidence that we can get the points required from now until the end of the season. I'm sure every other manager below me in the division is going to be saying that as well," he said.
"I said a while ago that that position when we got to 12th we weren't safe then, but we're still in a good position. The games have gone by and we're still looking forward to our challenge that we've been having all season - and that's one of proving people wrong - and we'll continue to do that.
"We'll just concentrate on Cardiff, and if we can beat Cardiff, then we're somewhere around the points tally that we needed to get," he added.
Meanwhile, the manager has given his reaction to the news that Wes Hoolahan has been called up to the preliminary Republic of Ireland 40-man squad by new manager Giovanni Trapattoni. Grayson feels the winger has warranted selection on his form for the Seasiders.
He said: "It's good. It's a mark of how well he's done this season. It's a big squad and I'm sure it will be whittled down but it shows how well he's done this year - and people are taking notice of him."
