SIMON Grayson has expressed his delight at the loan deadline day signings of Scott Flinders and Joe Martin.

The manager is keen to emphasise that competition for places is only a good thing and he now feels the latest two additions will help bolster the squad ahead of the remaining six games this season.

Flinders arrives at the club from Crystal Palace and is a player that the manager hopes will strengthen the goalkeeping department.

He said: "I just felt that it's an area that we really needed to sort of have some cover. We went into it last year where we eventually had to use the emergency loan market.

"He's got good experience, still only young, hungry to improve, and it's another competition for places.

"Scott's proved himself by being at Barnsley and then over to Palace and he's actually spent the last month at Yeovil, so he's match fit and ready for some games here to compete with Paul Rachubka for the number one jersey," he added.

Joe Martin

The second signing Grayson made yesterday was midfielder Joe Martin from Tottenham Hotspur, a signing that may have come as a surprise to some.

"Not many people would know about him but he's got good pedigree," Grayson said. "He's been at Tottenham, played regularly in their reserves, left footed, can play anywhere down the left-hand side as well as midfield and centre-half, so he's a utility player.

"It's testament to the club of how well we've done this year and the players that we are being able to get the attraction from other Premier League clubs.

"Both of them are very hungry to perform and do well here," he added.
