Following the derby day bore draw, life doesn't get any easier for Pool with a visit to the Britannia Stadium to face top of the table Stoke. The Potters have performed well this season and invested heavily, but they have not been at the top of their game in recent weeks and 4/1 is too big about an away win. It will not be easy to get the three points, but Pool are more than capable of claiming the win that will take them above the 50 point barrier. Stoke have started to look nervous in the last month or so and Pool need to take advantage of any insecurities to take anything from the game, but the players are more than capable of providing a shock and are a great price to do so.
In the Premier League it can pay to give Kevin Keegan one last chance to get a win with Newcastle. It is not a general rule to back teams on the back of winless runs that extend more than two moths, but there were signs in the game against Birmingham that the Toon are not to far away from getting back on track and a game against poor travellers Fulham is the perfect opportunity for them. The London club haven't tasted an away day win for nearly two seasons and their travel sickness should strike again when they visit St James Park. The 10/11 price is not the biggest in the world but it is about right and should be taken,
Another team from the North East, Middlesbrough look to have a great chance to pick up a win with a home game against Derby. Boro were unbelievably poor against Cardiff in the cup, but have put in two good performances in the league since and look fair enough value at 4/6 to heap more woe on the struggling Rams. Derby are marooned at the bottom of the table and look devoid of any confidence, it is highly unlikely that they will be able to raise their game to pick up any points.
In the Championship Norwich can take a big step towards safety by beating local rivals Colchester. The Canaries have let their form slip a little of late but should still have enough to put Colchester to the sword. The Essex club are cut adrift at the bottom of the table and relegation looks a certainty, the 5/6 price about the home win looks too big.
Brighton can continue their late push towards the play-offs by taking three points from a home game against Swindon. Nicky Forster has started to find the net on a regular basis in the last few games and he can inspire them once again.
Swindon performed well in the draw with Carlisle last weekend, but have been so inconsistent this year it remains to be seen if they can reproduce the performance to prevent Brighton winning. At even money they are a backable price and should land the spoils.
