Another point was added to the Seasiders Championship survival target on Tuesday night in a 0-0 draw that Pool could have just edged.
Simon Grayson sprung a couple of surprises in his starting line-up with a welcome return in the middle of the park for Keith Southern.
It was the Seasiders who looked the more threatening going forward with what looked very much a 4-2-4 formation. Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Wes Hoolahan were pushing up past the strike force of Paul Dickov and Ben Burgess and at times it seemed to cause Wolves problems.
The two starting frontmen looked bright and positive in the early stages of the game with Paul Dickov working tirelessly off the flick-ons from the head of Ben Burgess.
Dickie was the first Pool player to really create a good chance for Pool with nine minutes gone. It was the on-loan City frontman who weaved inside from the right and played a great fooling dummy to turn the ball into the box, but unfortunately for the Seasiders Ben Burgess just couldn't reach the ball.
The same combination could have again brought Pool the opener after Burgess managed to charge down an attempted long ball down field by Darren Ward. Burgess broke into the box but failed to realise Dickov in space before Wes Hoolahan fired over.
The first real chance for the visitors came from a set-play. A free-kick whipped in from Matt Jarvis caught goalkeeper Paul Rachubka somewhat by surprise on the bounce but the defence managed to clear the ball away. In the meantime, Stephen Crainey went down but was back on his feet once physio Phil Horner came onto the field.
The Seasiders may have had appeals for a penalty when a throw in caused problems in the opposition box but the referee was having none of it. Keith Southern was the next player to press Wolves back with a charge-down creating a chance for Dickov but he fired wide.
Matt Jarvis was again the main threat for Wolves going forward but his effort ten minutes before half-time was curled too far right of the post. Andy Keogh and Dave Edwards also failed to capitalise on chances before Paul Dickov came ever so close to making the breakthrough but his curling strike just went wide with the keeper stood still.
HALF TIME - BLACKPOOL 0 WOLVES 0
Within minutes of the second half starting, Ben Burgess was given a chance to open the scoring but his header at the back post failed to trouble the Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves net.
Surprisingly, it took Pool until the 59th minute to win their first corner of the match. It came after Paul Dickov had looked to lay the ball onto the chasing Ben Burgess but Gary Breen knocked the ball out of play.
The resulting corner skimmed the head of Ian Evatt but lacked any direction to cause the Wolves keeper any sort of problems.
Wolves began to threaten themselves just after the hour when George Elokobi crossed the ball in for Kevin Kyle to head at keeper Paul Rachubka.
You could sense the crowd starting to lift, as everyone eagerly awaited the first goal of the game. Suddenly, it nearly came when Gary Taylor-Fletcher unleashed a rasping strike from 20-yards that Wayne Hennessey was forced to tip onto the post.
Wolves had a go at the post themselves minutes later at the other end when Sylvan Ebanks-Blake raced against Michael Jackson before striking the ball straight at the right hand post and out, despite the best efforts of Stephen Crainey on the cover.
Some last-ditch defending from Crainey again prevented Ebanks-Blake again moments later when the striker looked to spin around his man and create the chance.
The 72nd minute saw the first change of the game with Paul Dickov leaving the field to be replaced by Stephen McPhee.
The striker could and probably should have given the Seasiders the lead with 77 minutes gone but his strike, on the back of a long ball down field, went wide of the left post.
Kevin Kyle had another chance with a header for Wolves from a Matt Jarvis corner but his effort went inches wide. At the other end Claus Jorgensen broke into the box but looked in two minds whether to pass or shoot, he chose the former but Wolves cleared their lines.
With seven minutes remaining, Andy Keogh found space in the box but luckily for Pool he fired over when it looked easier to score.
The late introduction of Stuart Green making his home bow for Keith Southern failed to bring Pool the elusive goal and in the end the teams were left to settle for a point apiece.
