The battle of the newly promoted clubs ended in a draw as the Tangerines welcomed Championship football back to Bloomfield Road for the first time in 29 years.
In front of a packed home crowd, Andy Morrell's flick from a Keith Southern strike looked to have set Pool on for their second win in the Championship only for a Richard Murray rebound to hit the net with just fifteen minutes remaining.
The twelve match winning run now becomes a thirteen match unbeaten run after the Seasiders had to settle for a point.
Both sides had chances but it's probably Bristol City that will be more pleased with the point after a second half barrage of Pool pressure despite losing a first-half 1-0 lead.
The game was played out mostly in the middle of the park as both sides looked to take the early advantage. It took until the 19th minute for the first on target attempt of the game, coming from Bristol City winger Michael McIndoe but his effort failed to test Paul Rachubka.
Ben Burgess, in for Keigan Parker had the chance to then get the early goal after taking down an Andy Morrell header on the slide.
The stadium awash with Tangerine, supporters decided to give Lee Trundle the traditional pantomime boo with chants of 'what a waste of money'. Trundle went down in the area on 34 minutes appealing for a penalty the referee decided to penalise the former Swansea star by awarding Pool a free-kick.
The game then began to become an end-to-end affair with the ever-magical Wes Hoolahan pulling out his array of tricks to turn the defenders inside out. A Gary Taylor-Fletcher cross come strike then failed to connect with an Andy Morrell back heel, as the striker looked to catch the keeper unawares.
As Pool began to turn the screw a charged down Keith Southern strike saw Gary Taylor-Fletcher look to chase with the former Huddersfield man having his effort prevented by keeper Chris Weale, it was left to Andy Morrell to try an audacious acrobatic attempt only for his effort to bounce onto the roof of the net.
The cries of 'shoot' 'shout' continued as Keith Southern gained possession and the scorer of the winning goal at Leicester City last weekend duly obliged with his strike from the edge of the area hitting the post.
Bristol City attempted to hit back by scoring right before the half-time whistle but for Louis Carey's header going wide across Paul Rachubka's goalmouth.
The second half began as the first left off with Kaspars Gorkss, in for the injured Ian Evatt going wide with the header.
Then came the break, the cries of 'shoot' 'shoot' sounded again as the ball reached the feet of Keith Southern. The Geordie let fly but this time it deflected onto Andy Morrell who flicked the ball into the right hand side of the goal despite Chris Weale getting a hand to it (51). BLACKPOOL 1 BRISTOL CITY 0.
The chances continued as a mazy run into the box from Hoolahan looked to create problems, the ball did but Louis Carey managed to clear for a corner.
Gary Johnson decided to throw on Phil Jevons but the real impact from a substitution came in the 71st minute with the arrival of Keigan Parker. Almost instantaneously the Scotsman bent the ball around the defence to force a great save fro Chris Weale. Pool upped the pressure with the unlikely goal poacher Kaspars Gorkss again going close but for a save from the keeper.
Then, as Pool looked to continue their spell of domination Lee Trundle worked his way into the box and forced a super save from Paul Rachubka only for the rebound to fall straight to Scott Murray to fire the ball for the equaliser (75) BLACKPOOL 1 BRISTOL CITY 1.
Claus Jorgensen then entered the fray and he looked odds on to score only for Chris Weale to get a fingertip save onto the outstretched effort from the number 16. A goalmouth scramble followed but still that vital touch could not be found.
