A 63rd minute equalising goal by Stern John meant that Pool were left to settle for a point at Bloomfield Road, despite a much-improved second-half performance.
A header from Keith Southern had cancelled out a first-half penalty scored by Gregory Vignal, before Kaspars Gorkss gave the Seasiders the lead after 54 minutes.
Simon Grayson was able to restore Paul Dickov to the starting line-up after the striker was passed fit following a hamstring injury.
After a spot of rain prior to the teams coming onto the field, conditions at Bloomfield became even more difficult to contend with as the strong winds were causing passes to go astray.
The weather was making it very difficult to gain any momentum in play and it was the visitors who were probably coping with it better in the early exchanges.
Neither side could really muster an attempt on goal on an afternoon where BSA unveiled a portrait of Alan Ball in the clubs' Hall of Fame.
It took until the 19th minute for the Seasiders to have their first real effort on goal. Wes Hoolahan broke in the middle of midfield and played a neat one-two with Keith Southern before pressing further forward and firing just wide of the right-hand post.
The effort seemed to bring Pool more into the game against a stubborn and resilient Southampton side. Stephen McPhee was clipped on his ankle as he looked to take in a Paul Dickov lay-off, allowing Stephen Crainey to have a go at goal.
Craines stepped up and fired the ball straight at the wall before Gary Taylor-Fletcher saw his rebound deflected out for a corner. Ian Evatt met the resulting corner but unfortunately his header was hacked away from goal.
The Seasiders almost did take the lead in the 27th minute after some neat build up play by Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Stephen McPhee. Fletch flicked the ball off his head on towards McPhee who chested the ball back for Claus Jorgensen to strike. The strike looked for all the world to be going in but somehow, Southampton keeper Michael Poke managed to get a hand to the ball, forcing another corner.
After slowly coming into the match, Pool were later to be dealt a blow with referee Dave Foster awarding Southampton a penalty. Marek Saganowski put the ball through to Stern John who tried to take the ball past two Pool defenders. Foster adjudged that Kaspar Gorkss had brought John down and the referee allowed GREGORY VIGNAL to step up and give the Saints the lead (30).

As the Seasiders looked to push for the equaliser before half-time, Marek Saganowski raced clear onto a Vignal long ball but his strike flew just past the right post.
HALF TIME - BLACKPOOL 0 SOUTHAMPTON 1
The Sun began to shine as the team returned for the second-half and within four minutes of the Pool were level. A long through from Shaun Barker on the right found its way to KEITH SOUTHERN who headed the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal (49).

The goal really sprung the Seasiders into life with Southampton pushing further back.
That was to be proved in the 54th minute as Stephen Crainey floated a ball into the box that was headed clear. The problem for Southampton was that it fell to KASPARS GORKSS who hit the ball into the bottom right corner to give Pool the lead.
BLACKPOOL 2 SOUTHAMPTON 1
Against the run of play Southampton equalised following somewhat of a goalmouth scramble in the Pool box. A corner from the Saints bobbled through the box before falling to STERN JOHN at the back post to hit the ball in the back of the net (63).

Moments later, the Saints caused the Seasiders yet more problems from a corner as both Jason Euell and Stern John tried to hook the ball towards goal before Stephen McPhee cleared, despite appeals for hand ball by the visitors.
Simon Grayson opted to make a double substitution in an effort to change things with both Michael Flynn and Ben Burgess coming on. Less than a minute after they had come on, Gary Taylor-Fletcher burst into the box but his ball into the box was wayward.
Ben Burgess won a free-kick on the edge of the box after he was fouled by Alex Ostlond. Ian Evatt met the resulting ball in but his header went straight into the hands of Michael Poke.
It was the Seasiders who continued to look the more likely of scoring the winner, as Poke came out to punch a Shaun Barker cross before Stephen McPhee could get his head to it.
Eight minutes remained on the clock when Wes Hoolahan raced onto the ball down the left but his effort went wide.
Good work by Ben Burgess than put Stephen McPhee in. The ball bobbled back to Wes to have his second effort within a minute but again his shot went wide.
With just four minutes remaining Simon Grayson utilised his final substitution of the game with Andy Morrell coming on for Gary Taylor-Fletcher.
Despite an added four minutes of stoppage time, the Seasiders were left to settle for a second home point in a week.
