Blackpool gained another point towards safety in the Championship after a 1-1 draw with Barnsley.

The Seasiders might feel a little unlucky not to have picked up all three points in the fixture after having most of the opportunities in the game.

An 20th minute header from Gary Taylor-Fletcher looked to set Pool on their way to another victory but Jamal Campbell Ryce equalised for Barnsley on the stroke of half-time.

Paul Dickov was again unable to be called upon by Simon Grayson due to a hamstring injury so Andy Morrell continued to partner Stephen McPhee up front.

The game started at a reasonably slow pace until Barnsley captain Brian Howard put a good ball into the Pool box only for Dennis Souza to head the ball wide to the relief of the Seasiders back line.

The Tykes looked more of a threat on the counter attack in the game as Blackpool took the game to the visitors. Stephen McPhee found his effort blocked after a neat interchange of passing between him and Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

In the pre-match programme notes, Fletch revealed he was unhappy with his current goal tally for the club, despite scoring two against Charlton during the last game at Bloomfield Road.

It was a first-half when the Pool number 12 could have significantly added to his tally and he did in the 20th minute. A great cross into the box from the left by Stephen Crainey found TAYLOR-FLETCHER who readjusted his position to head the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal.

As the Seasiders pressed for a second, the Tykes broke from a corner and could have equalised. It was Brian Howard again who picked up the ball to race forward into the Pool half. Howard played the ball out wide to the lively Jamal Campbell Ryce who in turn played the ball across goal for Jon Macken to tap in, but the former Preston striker fluffed his opportunity.

At the other end, Gary Taylor-Fletcher had a chance to add to his earlier goal with another header but this time he couldn't guide the ball into the path of the net. It became a case of the Taylor-Fletcher show going forward, with Wes Hoolahan this time floating a corner over to the waiting Fletch who struck a rasping shot but unfortunately for Pool it was blocked on the line.

Moments later Barnsley keeper Luke Steele found himself in no mans land and Stephen Crainey with the goal open went for the speculative effort from roundabout the half-way line but his effort narrowly bounced wide.

Bobby Hassell saw an effort for the visitors fly over before Barnsley striker Kayode Odejayi nearly scored a second for the Seasiders. The Tykes number nine headed the ball towards his own goal from the corner forcing Luke Steele to tip the ball over.

With Pool seemingly looking comfortable, the Barnsley counter attack came into play once more, and this time there was to be an equaliser at the end of it. Jon Macken played the ball to Odejayi on the right before he squared the ball across goal for the lively JAMAL CAMPBELL RYCE to equalise (45).

HALF TIME - BLACKPOOL 1 BARNSLEY 1

The second half started much better for the Seasiders and inside for minutes of the restart Stephen McPhee could have kept up his recent goal scoring run. The former Hull man raced clear only to find his shot parried back by Luke Steele. The save from Steele rebounded fortuitously off Stephen Foster but unfortunately for Pool it only went as far as the post.

The Seasiders continued to look the most likely to score with Stephen Crainey playing a short free-kick for Wes to fire over. It was the same combination that continued to cause the Tykes problems down the left. After Wes had a cross cleared back to him, the Irishman passed the ball back to Crainey to deliver another teasing cross. The cross fell to Ian Evatt who's effort then fell to Stephen McPhee on the turn but Macca couldn't keep his effort under the bar.

Hoolahan continued to terrorise the Barnsley defence this time playing in Andy Morrell but the striker hit the ball agonisingly wide of the right post on his left foot.

Simon Grqayson opted to change things around with just over fifteen minutes to go when he brought on Ben Burgess and Michael Flynn for Andy Morrell and Claus Jorgensen.

Burgess almost made an immediate impact when he met Wes Hoolahan's cross but his header just looped onto the roof of the net.

Stephen McPhee later had a chance in injury time but in the end the Seasiders were left to settle for another point towards safety.
