They say former players come back to haunt their former clubs and Ben Burgess did exactly that as he popped up deep into injury time to give Pool a 2-1 win over Hull City.

Burgess completed a fairytale story against his former side as he came off the bench to meet a Keigan Parker cross and grab Blackpool's first home win of the season.

The game was marred however by what looked to be a serious injury to Hull City debutant Caleb Folan following a clash of heads with Kaspars Gorkss.

In a frantic start to the game it took just 20 seconds for the first attempt at goal as Pool looked to catch Hull napping. A quick free-kick from David Fox found Andy Morrell running in behind the defence as he cut back to fire straight into the hands of the keeper.

Caleb Folan, making his debut following a club record £1million move from Wigan showed Tigers fans what he has to offer as he showed a turn of pace to break into the box only for no-one to be there to meet his cross.

Keigan Parker, starting the game with last seasons strike partner Andy Morrell was, as ever playing on the shoulder of the Hull back line but was unlucky on several occasions as he was pulled up for offside.

Hull's first clear opening came in the 17th minute after Richard Garcia looked to connect with a Stuart Elliot knock down in the box - Ian Evatt just did enough to put him off though.

David Fox then had a go for goal as the game increasingly became end to end on the counter after some neat interchange from the corner only for his strike to deflect into the clutches of keeper Matt Duke.

Dean Marney may have then felt unlucky not to have hit the target from the edge of the area as his strike fizzed over the bar. Wes Hoolahan had earlier hit the ball on the half-volley only to see his effort fail really to test Matt Duke, selected again ahead of Boaz Myhill.

There were more than just the illuminations on the promenade in the second half as the game completely lit up. Within two minutes of the restart Keigan Parker went on a trademark scamper down the right, he whipped the ball into the box with Wayne Brown sliding to deal with it only for the ball to end up at Gary Taylor-Fletcher's feet for the Pool number 12 to notch his second goal of the season (47). It prompted Pool fans to chant 'Burnley here we come' but those chants were to be short lived.

No sooner were Pool up when Hull took their chance to hit back as Caleb Folan produced a step over dummy to let the ball run for Ian Ashbee to smash home a superb strike to level matters (50).

Keith Southern looked to restore the lead with a fine effort but his effort was parried by Matt Duke, only for Gary Taylor-Fletcher to be hounded out on the follow-up.

The pace of the game rose once more as Stuart Elliot looked to give Hull the lead but for the outstretched leg of Paul Rachubka.

The game then came to a stand still following a clash of heads between Kaspars Gorkss and Caleb Folan. Folan came off the worst of the two with Gorkss sporting a gash above the eyebrow. Folan making his debut for the Tigers lay flat on the floor for several minutes as Paramedics looked to assess the situation with Folan stretchered off the field in a neck brace after a seven-minute stoppage.

The restart nearly witnessed a goal as Turner appeared to fall with Parker in on goal to shoot wide only for the referee to pull the ball back for a foul on the defender.

Simon Grayson then decided to change things with Adrian Forbes and Ben Burgess up against his former club taking to the field.

It was Hull though that continued to create with a flick on from Dean Marney allowing Elliot to strike again only for Rachubka to thwart him for the second time on the night.

The board for stoppage time was then to appear as 11 minutes of the game remaining due to the major stoppage.

As three remained it was left for Ben Burgess to cap a memorable cameo appearance against the side from which he came to head home into the back of the net to get Pool their second set of three points this season.
