A celebratory Sheffield Wednesday supporter gracious as ever, conceded the result was an injustice and who am I to disagree. Pool who came back from one down, outplayed their promotion chasing hosts for long periods but came away with nothing.

Pool made two changes for the trip to South Yorkshire, one forced with Danny Coid failing a late fitness test, the other tactical with Richie Wellens being given the nod over Simon Grayson in the centre of midfield.

Following the customary pre-match huddles Pool began proceedings on a chilly, but fine March afternoon attacking the stand where the noisy Wednesday contingent are housed and following a fairly even opening five minutes, the hosts earned a corner after Tony Butler put behind, the resulting corner saw Graeme Lee ghost unmarked into the area, but fortunately for Pool, Lee could only direct his header over the bar.

Sheffield were forced in to an early change on six minutes when former Preston 'keeper David Lucas was stretchered off following a collision with John Murphy, Lucas was replaced by reserve team stopper Chris Adamson.

Lee Jones was forced to scurry across his line to flick Peacock's effort away for a corner, the resulting corner once again caused Pool problems but this time the Seasiders were able to brake at pace, with Richie Wellens releasing Jamie Burns down the left channel, as Burns was about to pull the trigger the young winger was denied a goal by a brave piece of keeping from Adamson who got down well to block out for a corner.

In what had been an entertaining open quarter hour, Keigan Parker almost made it 1-0 on the quarter of an hour with a cheeky lob that just went over, whilst two minutes later the livewire Scot earn Pool a corner which the home side defender with ease.

Had Richie Wellens been an Arsenal player then Pool could have been awarded a penalty on 17 minutes, the influential midfielder appeared to impeded as he broke into the area, but to his credit Wellens stayed on his feet to eventually see his cross cum shot saved by Adamson.

Some persistent work from Jamie Burns down the left flank earned Pool their third corner on 21 minutes, this time Keigan Parker's effort from the left was put behind for a fourth set play, but once again the Wednesday defence cleared the danger with ease.

A fifth corner on 23 minutes almost saw John Murphy open the scoring but Adamson somehow got a fist to clear Murphy's header.

Having dominated proceedings Pool found themselves one down on 27 minutes, Craig Rocastle got the better of a 50-50 with Keith Southern before exchanging a neat one two with former Pool favourite James Quinn, Rocastle then strode forward unchallenged to slot past the advancing Lee Jones.

The goal knocked the stuffing out of Pool and things became somewhat scrappy, Tony Butler was booked for a foul on Peacock on 31 minutes, six minutes later a poor back pass from Martin Bullock saw Lee Jones wrong footed but fortunately for the Tangerines his clearance cannoned off Quinn and out for a goal kick.

The Owls cleared the Seasiders sixth corner on 39 minutes at the second attempt before scampering up the field to force a corner of their own, this time, it was the home team who failed to cause problems with a set play.

Chris Adamson came racing off his line on 43 minutes to save at the feet of Richie Wellens, unfortunately for Pool, Keigan Parker, who had picked up the rebound curled his shot just over the bar.

Half Time Sheffield Wednesday 1 Blackpool 0

The interval was spent discussing quite how Pool were trailing after the break, but my colleagues didn't have to wait too long to note a goal because within two minutes of the restart the Seasiders were back on level terms, Pool broke down the left flank with Jamie Burns, Burns first attempted cross ricocheted back to Burns who then sent over a great cross, which was put into the top left hand corner by Keith Southern

The referee swayed by the Sheffield faithful penalised Tony Butler for a foul on Peacock some 20-yards from goal, Jon Paul McGovern stepped up to curl one round the wall, but the PFA player of the month was denied by a good save from Lee Jones.

Richie Wellens was fouled some two yards from the left hand bye line by substitute Alex Bruce midway through the second half, Keigan Parker took the resulting kick and his teasing cross just eluded John Murphy.

Pool's first corner of the second period saw Keigan Parker fail to clear the first man, but the resulting throw in saw Pool earn their ninth corner of the game and once again the effort from the right failed to clear the first man.

Pool made their first change of the afternoon on 69 minutes with Rob Edwards being replaced by Paul Edwards, that change saw Burns slot in a left back and Edwards into the left wing berth.

Certain decisions have proved baffling this season andon 74 minutes, Pool found themselves on the wrong end of yet another woeful piece of refereeing, having just incensed the home supporters by not awarding a penalty for hand ball, the merry whistle blower through a crowd of players redeemed himself to the Yorkshireman and awarded the hosts a penalty, presumably for handball, yet no one was booked or sent off. Lee Peacock confidently placed the ball on the spot and after a minute or so mind games from Lee Jones, Peacock fired to the left of Jones, but once again the big Welshman got down well and saved the effort, Wednesday to be fair were first to react but McGovern could only fire wide.

For those of you at Bournemouth on Tuesday night, shall we say this referee was even worse and ten minutes from time, he defied science, if a ball is kicked in a straight line and then suddenly diverts 90 degrees science and commonsense say the ball must have taken a deflection, for my money it was deflected off a hand, for my Sheffield Wednesday supporting colleague off a leg, for the referee, well he decided that it didn't hit anything and promptly awarded a goal kick.

Having once again dominated the half, Pool found themselves a goal down again with just six minutes remaining, substitute Andrew Talbot was sent racing clear by Glen Whelan and calmly slotted beyond Jones.

Martin Bullock saw shot parried behind for a corner shorlty afterwards, but once again the Tangerines couldn't find a way through and less than sixty seconds later the game was put out of reach with another finish from Talbot, this time Talbot reacted quickest to fire home after Lee Jones parried Lee Peacock 's shot.

Having said that, this Pool side doesn't know when it is beaten these days and seconds later John Murphy made it 3-2, Keith Southern saw his shot blocked and the ball fell to the big striker who smashed home from 18-yards.

Pool then threw everything forward but couldn't find the deserved equaliser.
